Optical Designer R&D

Job in Eindhoven, Netherlands

Our customer is one of the largest independent organization in Europe in the area of new technology development and technical advisory. They employ over 3000 engineers and researchers in a wide range of economic sectors, including energy, mobility, industrial innovation, information society and defense.

At their Optics research group they provide world-class technical solutions for their customers in a broad range of areas. Traditionally they work for customers in the fields of Space and Semiconductors, but with the emergence of photonics the playing field has expanded and they are leading innovations into the world of Oil and Gas as well as medical instrumentation.

(Senior) Optical Designer:
With a solid background in optical design, preferably in a lead role, this could be the start of your prosperous career.
In this role you’ll be responsible for optical designs, publications, networking and your own personal development. You have a thirst for (ground breaking) innovation and international collaborations. You thrive in a diverse and knowledge based environment and hold nothing back in sharing yours with others.

We’d like you to take responsibility and ownership over results and need you to push the boundaries of what is possible: if the existing approach is no longer sufficient, you will proactively take charge in order to maintain course.

For this, you have a pioneering spirit and are comfortable with the uncertainty that usually comes with complex scientific and engineering problems.
Your seniority will also show in the guidance given to our less senior colleagues and we expect you to delegate and monitor optical design tasks to them.

Job Requirements

    The role of Optical Designer requires you to have a certain level of expertise that you’re willing to share without hesitation.

    To be successful in the role ideally we’d like you to have;

    • A Master or PhD in Optics
    • Experience with Optical Design
    • Experience working with: Code V, Zemax, and/or Matlab
    • The ability to contribute to research proposals
    • Proven experience with a diversity of designs of spectrometers and/or optical metrology systems
    • Preferably demonstrative leadership ability and care for a relevant network within the optical design community
